The Physician is a 2013 historical drama directed by Philipp Stolzl, based on Noah Gordon's 1986 novel. The film follows the journey of Robert Cole, played by Tom Payne, a Christian boy in 11th-century England with an extraordinary gift for sensing impending death. After the death of his mother, he becomes an apprentice to a wandering barber-surgeon, portrayed by Stellan Skarsgard, and develops a deep ion for medicine. This desire leads him to disguise himself as a Jew to study at a medical school in Persia, which does not it Christians, where he learns from the renowned physician Ibn Sina, played by Ben Kingsley.
